Robber Darren Beckett punched and threatened a shopkeeper with a bamboo cane during a robbery at a Surrey petrol station. The 37-year-old targeted the petrol station store last January and attempted to steal lottery tickets and tobacco before the shopkeeper managed to chase him off.
Now Beckett, of Miles Road, Epsom , has been sentenced to 27 months in prison. Beckett had previous pleaded not guilty to robbery and possession of cannabis and was sentenced at Guildford Crown Court on January 3.
Sergeant Dan Henderson, said: “No one should come to work and expect to be assaulted and threatened with violence. I hope Beckett is able to reflect on his appalling behaviour which will absolutely not be tolerated in our community.”
