Staines, Ashford & Stanwell
Staines-upon-Thames – as it was renamed in 2012 – has been a settled town since Roman times. Tragedy struck in 1972 when 118 people died in a plane crash. The old 'Staines Lino' factory exported to Europe and America at its peak, while comedy character Ali G brings a different kind of fame. Ashford, Stanwell and Heathrow Airport lie nearby.
